Jungle Themed Yoga Poses to Add to Your Child’s Daily Practice
Teaching through themes is one of my favorite approaches. It creates a meaningful connection between yoga and children’s everyday lives.
One of my favorite themes? Definitely — the jungle! It’s wild, adventurous, and full of movement — perfect for sparking kids’ creativity. They love stretching tall like giraffes, swaying playfully like monkeys, and folding up like cozy tents, all while building strength, balance, and mindfulness in the most fun and playful way.
Did you know what the children’s favourite animal was in our 14th July workshop? As you might have guessed — it was the tiger! 🐯 They all loved using their sharp claws to scratch the jungle trees. SKRRRRT! — KRRRSSHH!
Throughout the session, we played many yoga games inspired by jungle animals, keeping the children moving, and fully engaged.
One of our favourite yoga games was the Frog Leap! 🐸
The children became little frogs, hopping from their lotus leaves into the big, shimmering pond. But oh no — suddenly, there was a sneaky snake slithering through the water! 🐍
Quick! The little frogs had to leap back to the safety of their lotus leaves. The kids had so much fun pretending, jumping, and giggling through the whole game!
““When you can’t control what’s happening outside, take a breath and find calm inside.””
Breathing exercises provide children with a valuable tool they can use anytime when they feel overwhelmed, excited, or need a moment to reset. As the children sat tall, wiggling their noses like bunnies and taking three quick sniffs through their noses, we all began to 'smell' imaginary treats — carrots, strawberries, even chocolate! I felt so proud seeing the children truly engaged in their breathing practice.
As the children resting in their “boat”, we wrapped up the session with a calming self-love story and a boost of positive affirmations to help build the children’s confidence and self-esteem. It was a beautiful way to end our jungle adventure — reminding each child how strong, kind, and special they truly are.
Here are more snapshots from our fun-filled class!
As a teacher myself, I’m always on the lookout for activities that are both engaging and meaningful for children. I’ve found that whenever movement and colour are involved, their eyes light up with excitement.
That’s why I love combining kids yoga and creative art in one session — it brings together the best of both worlds.
To end, I just want to say thank you to all the little yogis and supportive families who shared this joyful experience with us — you are truly amazing!
